Izendorn Hobling Culture Packet (SB)
Society
There are two main hobling groups in Izendorn. The first live in a village slightly north of Lanalor's Keep in the Izendorn kingdom. Hoblings from these clans are free-spirited beings who practice a variety of trades. Primary among them are tailors/seamstresses, bookbinders, soapmakers, and cooks of all sorts. Clan Opalstar tends to produce visionaries and dreamers. The second group live in the southern mountain ranges of Izendorn. No one is quite sure where this second hobling group originated from or if they've just always been there. Hoblings from this clan are more militaristic and tend to take direct combat roles, primarily. Hoblings from this area rarely pursue scholarly activities, but healers and celestial scholars are not unheard of. In addition, hoblings from these clans make good smiths, craftsmen of practical goods or horse ranchers.
The Clans Hiccup, Ravendark and Yelloweyes typically produce hoblings most interested in practical jokes and being somewhat sneaky. These clans have past associations with the Sarr clan Jazza'b'mu. Most hoblings won't work with Sarrs unless the individual Sarr or Sarr clan has proven themselves worthy. Given the distrust most Sarr have with Hoblings, the hoblings just shrug and ignore the Sarr.
History
The Hobling clans located near Lanalor's Keep are thought to have wandered away from the lands of Dyllaria more than 100 years ago. No one knows for certain though because there aren't any good records from this time. The Hoblings at this time were led by Moonbeam Opalstar, who started walking one day because she saw a pretty blue and black butterfly and kept walking until she decided to stop. Other hoblings followed her because it seemed like a game of "follow the leader" and looked like fun. When Moonbeam finally stopped, the Hoblings realized they had no idea where they were or how to get back again, so they decided to stay and make new homes. Moonbeam made up some laws for the hoblings to live by and everyone got along.
Laws
Hoblings in Izendorn follow all kingdom laws when travelling. Within their villages, there are a few extra laws they abide by. Hoblings have a peculiar code of honor amongst themselves.
1. No wearing the
color red or black.
2. No wearing shoes in summer.
3. No
farming of mushrooms, except truffles.
4. No eating talking
fish.
5. Always play one game a day.
6. Singing is always
allowed.
7. Always take care of your weapon or horse before
yourself (limited to the southern clans only)
Language
Izendorn Hoblings speak the common language of Tyrra. Izendorn Hoblings have heard of other hoblings that talk in high, squeaky voices. They liked this idea so much that they do it too.
Names
Hoblings name themselves after a wide variety of things: food, nature, animals, colors, or the random combination of letters that looks good. A Hobling child is named at birth, but Hoblings often change their names several times in the course of their lives. There are no defined gender roles among Izendorn Hoblings, and males and females will often have the same first name. The only exception to this are hoblings that belong to the Clans TreeLopper, Thumper, Spikebush and Arrowroot. Hoblings from these clans take names that reflect a more militaristic attitude or emotion (see bold). Emotion-based names are rare and usually come after a Hobling from one of these clans has suffered tremendously in some fashion.
