Noble Courtesy

The nobles of Izendorn are expected to behave appropriately to their rank.  These strictures of behavior are collectively known as noble courtesy.

Honor:

All people are expected to act with integrity regarding their deportment, the laws of the land in which they reside, and in accordance with the laws of their race.  This is especially true of the nobility, who may additionally have codes to follow assigned by their liege.  From this expectation comes of the right of each individual to protect their honor by means of arms, magic or similar.

Hospitality:

Anyone accepted into your home is granted hospitality.  These people are to be accorded the respect of their class and station, treated as a guest.  They will be protected by yourself and all members of your house.  The guest agrees to give due respect to the host and not overtax his/her generosity.

Kin:

It is expected that all owe loyalty to their families.

Loyalty:

When fealty is sworn to another as a liege, the person who swore that oath agrees to obey all orders given and to otherwise support the liege.  In turn, the liege supports those who have sworn fealty and is responsible for the outcome of all orders given.

Presenting oneself to another court:

When visiting the lands of another, a nobleman shall immediately present himself to the sitting noble, no matter his rank, and announce his purpose and intended term of visitation.  At the time of this announcement, the visiting noble shall bring a gift from his homeland.  If the visitor is from another land, and is a first-time visitor, he or she will be required to present a sealed document penned in his liege’s own hand that verifies his title in good standing. Nobility from other lands who present themselves properly will be treated with the respect that their position accords to them.  Foreign nobility shall be allowed no powers save those granted to them temporarily if their aide is needed and granted in crisis.  Those nobility who properly present themselves shall be denied the naming of their titles or the courtesies that come with such only under the most dire of circumstances. Visiting nobility who show the proper respect for the sitting noble shall be accorded sleeping accommodations, so long as this is not at the expense of the local nobility.  Every effort shall be made to accommodate a visiting nobleman, and only in the most extreme of circumstances shall a visitor not be allowed the use of his title.  Let the courtesy and honor required of those who hold such rank govern the actions of nobility for one another.
